Real estate investments

California residents who find themselves with a large sum of money may want to consider investing in real estate. There are several real estate strategies that a person interested in moving into the industry may want to use. One of those strategies, trophy hunting, is looking for a high-profile property.

Experts disagree regarding 2016 CRE outlook

Robust demand in California and a number of other key areas helped to boost the value of commercial real estate transactions to a record high in 2015, but some economic forecasters are expecting market growth to slow in the coming year. The U.S. Federal Reserve raised interest rates for the first time in almost a decade on Dec. 16, and the increase of 25 basis points combined with falling energy prices and slowing economic growth in China has led to speculation that tougher times may lie ahead.

CRE experts have mixed response to interest rate increase

The Dec. 16 Federal Reserve announcement that interest rates would be increased by 25 basis points received a mixed response from commercial real estate experts in California and around the country. The Fed's decision had been predicted by many for some time, and media reports indicate that it was only poor job growth in November that prevented Fed Chair Janet Yellen from announcing the move sooner. Many economic analysts expect additional rate increases in the coming years.

In September, the car maker admitted to fitting some of its diesel vehicles with devices that provided false information for emissions tests. On Jan. 4, the U.S. Justice Department announced that it had filed a multi-billion dollar lawsuit against Volkswagen.
