Paramount faces lawsuit over product placement dispute

California-based Paramount Pictures is facing a lawsuit from Wulong Karst Tourism, a Chinese tourism company, because Paramount was supposed to include the company's logo in its film "Transfomers: The Age of Extinction" and failed to do so. The China Movie Channel, one of the movie's co-producers, is being sued as well. The case was filed in 2014 and is still being heard.

Commercial real estate investments and crowdfunding

Crowdfunding was historically used to raise capital for artistic endeavors, but it has made its way into the real estate sector in the past year or so.

Verizon strike could mean service outages

On April 13, almost 40,000 Verizon employees went on strike on the East Coast. The walkout could cause months-long delays in completing repair, reconnection and installation orders for the company's estimated 140 million mobile, Internet and cable subscribers, including those in California.

MetLife no longer a SIFI

Commercial real estate developers in California may have an additional potential source for needed financing now that MetLife has been able to get rid of its designation as a Systemically Important Financial Institution, or SIFI. The designation, which is one that carries stringent regulatory requirements, was originally placed on MetLife along with eight large banks following the Wall Street bailout.
